It's as good as the original. bought this replacement bit to use while my original bit is being re-sharpened.
So go ahead. I was amazed at how much easier it is to cut a pocket screw hole with a sharp bit. Replace the bits - it's worth it. I cut alot of pocket screws and I've bought other bits. But these are some seriously sharp bits.
Better price than the local hardware. Quick delivery. Keep a spare so it is always there when you need it.
These are exceptionally hard and will hold up to extreme use and high heat. If you are replacing a lost bit, be aware that this bit does not include the depth collar, which may be found here: Kreg H9474 Depth Collar w/ AllenĀ® WrenchKreg also makes a square shank version, for quick-change bit holders: Kreg Hex Shank Pocket-Hole Drill Bit and a quick change set including the quick-change driving bit: Kreg Quick-Change Pocket-Hole Kit.Finally, Kreg also makes cobalt steel bits that can be used either in their pocket hole machines or in a hand-held drill. They are expensive, though, and if you are going to use one in a hand-held drill, make sure you buy the right-hand twist version: Kreg DKDB 3/8-Inch Step Twist Drill Bit for Pocket Hole Machines. These are tailor-made for drilling pocket holes - not just because of the stepped design, but because of their high-polish, sharpness, and temper. Drilling a lot of pocket holes in a row generates a lot of heat, and these bits hold up to the heat and keep their edge.
However, the small diameter tip can break off if one is not careful, so I keep a spare bit on hand. These step bits work very well in the pocket hole jig.
